The Statistics Department is established at MMDAs as per the Second Schedule of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936).

Objectives of the Establishment

   Enhance the use of statistics for evidence-based decision making.

   Harmonise concepts, methods, and classifications used in the production of statistics at all levels.

   Assist the MMDA to mobilise revenue for development.

   Reinforce the coordination of statistics generation, compilation, analysis, storage, archiving, and dissemination across departments within the MMDA.

   Engender statistical literacy among stakeholders.

   Systematise the collation of administrative data across sectors and geographical units.

   Strengthen the capacity of statistical staff at the MMDA level.

General Functions & Responsibilities

   Collect, compile, store, and analyse data based on standardised formats developed by the Ghana Statistical Service.

   Prepare and submit an Annual Report of its operations to the District Assembly and advise the Assembly on all matters relating to statistics.

   Provide timely data for incorporation into district, regional, and national-level statistics analyses. The department comprises two units: the Field Operations Unit and the Data Entry and Analysis Unit, headed by the Head of Department.
