Food Vendors / Handlers Certificate Permit Procedures

Medical certification confirming a food handler or vendor is free from communicable disease.

The Mpohor District Assembly (Control of Restaurant and Eating-Houses) By-law 2000 requires anyone operating a restaurant or eating house — or anyone preparing, handling, or serving food within one — to be medically certified as free from communicable disease, and to renew that certification as directed by the appropriate medical authority.

Who can apply

Any individual or organisation wishing to operate, handle, serve, or sell food within the district.

How to apply

The prospective applicant must complete the following:

  1. a
Purchase a medical form from the Revenue Office at the main office in Mpohor.
  2. b
The District Environmental and Public Health Officer issues a Certificate of Suitability through the Ghana Tourism Authority within two (2) working days after inspection.
  3. c
You'll be asked to contact the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) for your licence within seven (7) working days of submitting the application form.
  4. d
Once approved by the Ghana Tourism Authority, the District Environmental and Public Health Officer recommends you to the Assembly for registration and issuance of a Business Operating Permit (BOP), at an approved fee.
The fee charged by the Assembly depends on the type, size, and location of your business. Fees are subject to change and are regulated by the Fee Fixing Resolution adopted annually by the Assembly.
