Social Welfare & Communnity Department

The department exists to promote and ensure improvement in the living standards of the people in the district and the disadvantaged sections throughinitiatives and active participation.
The department sees to protection of the rights of the minority and vulnerable, capacity building, social justice and equity. These are achieved through community engagement/mobilization, sensitization/ education as well as social protection intervention implementation and evaluation.

The department also promotes the socio-economic well-being of the people with the primary focus on assisting the vulnerable and socially excluded in order to improve their situation by building on their own initiatives and assets.

Programmes And Activities of The Department

1. Support families and individuals in the handling of non-child maintenance cases, Child abuse, Custody, Paternity and family reconciliation.
2. Identify and register Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
3. Facilitate livelihood empowerment programmes and support for PWDs.
4. Facilitate the implementation of the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) activities.
5. Supervise, monitor and facilitate the registration of Day Care Centers.
6. Intervene in cases of children in worst forms of Child Labour.
7. Supervise and monitor the implementation of School Feeding Programme.
8. Handle domestic violence and spousal abuse cases.
9. Undertake sensitization and social education on social problems.
10. Undertake community entry processes for programme initiation, monitoring and evaluation.
11. Promote entrepreneurial skills, business support services and linkages of financial institution to beneficiaries of skills training programme
12. Mobilise community members for communal labour and self-help projects.
13. Promote women empowerment activities and gender issues.
14. Organize community members for the collection of inputs for the preparation of budget and medium-term development plan.
