Mission

To manage disasters by coordinating the resources of government and non-governmental agencies, and developing community capacity to respond effectively to disasters and improve livelihoods through social mobilisation, employment generation, and poverty reduction.

Objectives

   Implement government policy on disaster prevention, disaster risk reduction, and climate change risk management.

   Prepare national disaster plans for preventing and mitigating the consequences of disasters.

   Implement government policy on disaster prevention, disaster risk reduction, and climate change risk management, including supervised resources, documentation of work programmes and testing results, and communication of results with conclusions and recommendations to appropriate parties.

   Monitor, evaluate, and update national disaster plans.

   Ensure the establishment of adequate facilities, technical training, and educational programmes to provide public awareness, warning systems, and general preparedness for staff and the public.

   Coordinate local and institutional support for disaster or emergency control, relief services, and reconstruction.
