Public Relations and Complaints Committee


On the 28th March, 2023, the Mpohor District, Public Relations and Complaints Committee meet to perform their statutory functions as obliged by the constitution of the land. The constitution of Ghana, article 26 and 27 stipulates the membership of the committee. a. Presiding member who is supposed to be the chairman of the committee as well. b. Five (5) members elected by the district assembly. c. Representative each of the district office; i. National Commission on Civic Education, ii. Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice,iii. Civil Society Organization Representative By the standing orders, the Presiding Member of the Mpohor District Assembly happens to be the chairman of the committee.

The District Chief Executive, Hon. Ignatius Asaah Mensah graced the meeting by sharing a word with the committee. He expressed his appreciations to members for their availability. He said the PRCC is one of the major arms of the decentralization process in the governance of the country. He hammered on the importance of the PRCC thus addressing grievances of the public and also making the PRCC more popular in the district. In a whole the PRCC deals with any issues about poor relationship between staff of the assembly and the citizens or the people within the district to deal with any complaints and resolve the issues amicably.

The District Coordinating Director said, there are two statutory committees that reports to the General Assembly thus Public Relations and Complaints Committee and Executive Committee and these committees do not report to any sub-committee. He said, there should be sensitization to the general public about the existence of the PRCC. He reiterated the Committee should come out with budget to help in their daily activities such as education and sensitization on revenue generations. On erratic power outages a day to clear bushes around power lines since Electricity Company of Ghana officials are scared to go these areas to clear the weeds due to the fear of falling into galamsey pits.

The sensitization of the activities of Public Relations and Complaints and revenue mobilization, the District Chief Executive, secretary should at least know the mission of people who visits the Chief Executive or at least know their issues and direct them to the appropriate offices accordingly.The District Coordinating Director, admonished members asked honorable assembly members to organize regular community engagement to ascertain the issues confronting their people. Also, there are external inflows of cash and less internal inflows so members should help to generate enough revenues for the district. The assembly member for the Adum Dominase electoral area to get people weed around the CHP compound so that staff can be posted there for the functionality of the facility to be put into use. In other news, the activities of the Tricycle Operators were discussed extensively more especially regulating their activities and prices. The DCD, called for the revise of the fee-fixing due to the low fees charged from the operators. The engagement of illegal miners’ machines were discussed so the assembly can tax these to generate enough revenues from them. The issues on Information Centre Services were discussed so they can be called for sensitization and education on their work.
