The Mpohor-Fiase District Assembly has taken a significant step toward implementing Ghana's flagship 24-hour economy initiative following a final inspection of the
proposed site for the construction of a modern 24-hour economy market at Adum Banso.
The 24-hour economy model, being promoted by the Government of Ghana, seeks to enhance national productivity, create more employment opportunities, and reduce congestion in major commercial centres by encouraging continuous business and public service operations through a structured three-shift system. The initiative is also aimed at transforming the economy into a more production-driven and value-added system supported by purpose-built infrastructure such as markets, industrial parks, and service hubs.
The inspection exercise, which took place on 15th January 2026, formed part of the District Assembly’s preparations to ensure readiness for the implementation of
the project. It brought together key stakeholders, including the Chief of Adum Banso, Nana Kwandoh Brempong III, representatives of the Member of Parliament,
the District Chief Executive, Hon. Sophia Aubyn, the Presiding Member, constituency executives, and technical officers of the Assembly led by the District
Coordinating Director, Mr. Alhassan Sulemana.
During the guided tour of the site, stakeholders were briefed on the layout and design of the proposed market. The technical team confirmed that the site has been fully cleared and levelled, making it suitable for construction and aligned with the requirements of the project.
Nana Kwandoh Brempong III expressed appreciation to the government for introducing the 24-hour economy policy, describing it as a forward-thinking
initiative with the potential to significantly boost economic activity in the district. He noted that the project would create employment opportunities,
particularly for the youth, and stimulate trade and investment in the area.
For her part, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Sophia Aubyn, explained that the selection of the site was based on thorough technical, environmental,
and planning assessments to ensure sustainability and efficiency. She assured stakeholders that the location meets all required standards and that the
project is expected to face no major implementation challenges.
Once completed, the Adum Banso 24-hour economy market is expected to function as a fully integrated commercial hub. The facility will include a fire station, clinic, two cold stores, 97 lockable shops, 10 warehouses, washroom facilities, a police station, restaurant, guest rooms, a creche, banking hall, supermarket, over 100 sheds and stalls, a livestock bay, refuse collection point, and a food court. The Assembly noted that these facilities are designed to ensure safety, hygiene, security, financial accessibility, and convenience for traders and customers operating around the clock. The successful inspection marks a key milestone in the district’s alignment with the national 24-hour economy agenda. It also highlights strong collaboration between traditional authorities, political leadership, and technical officers in driving local development. The project is expected to contribute significantly to job creation, boost local commerce, and support the broader economic transformation agenda within the Mpohor-Fiase District.
