The District Committee of the Ghana AIDS Commission continues to play a vital role in coordinating HIV and AIDS interventions at the local level,
ensuring that national policies and strategies are effectively implemented within communities.
Chaired by the District Chief Executive or a designated representative, the Committee brings together key stakeholders from the District Assembly, Ghana Health Service, Education Directorate, Social Welfare Department, security services, traditional authorities, faith-based organizations, and civil society groups, including persons living with HIV.
The Committee is responsible for coordinating prevention, treatment, care, and support programmes, while also developing district-specific
action plans aligned with national strategies. It actively promotes public education to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and encourage responsible
health practices.
In addition, the Committee mobilizes resources, monitors and evaluates interventions, and submits regular reports to regional and national bodies. Through strong collaboration among public institutions, NGOs, and community groups, it works to ensure a comprehensive and inclusive response to HIV/AIDS.
Officials say the Committee’s mandate remains focused on reducing new infections, improving access to treatment, and protecting the rights and welfare of persons living with HIV, as part of broader national efforts to end HIV/AIDS as a public health threat.
